MAYAN RIVIERA
Tourist Guide EJIDO JACINTO PAT EXPLORATION Expedition

Over
one thousand years ago, human waves of Mayans migrated to the great
Yucatan cities and ushered in a new empire. A short five hundred years
later, as the Spaniards arrived, the jungle was already invading the once
noble settlements. During the last two decades, a different breed of
migrant flocked to the peninsula to enjoy the glorious beaches and the
curious remnants of the lost civilization. Armed with suntan lotion and
deck chairs, they occupied a narrow strip of new colonies strung along the
seaside. Paamul Caribbean Paradise, Riviera Maya Q. Roo México
During
the eighties, a few curious divers began to examine the mystical waters in
the jungle. These limpid pools had captured the imaginations of previous
settlers, but man had yet to uncover their depths. As such, a modern era
of exploration was born in the New Frontier. By
invitation from indigenous locals, cavers began to uncover the cenotes
that lay in close proximity to the narrow ribbon of coastal highway. Now
the discovery of new gateways to the aquifer is a regular occurrence.
Endless possibilities are available to those who are willing to develop
good relationships with the landowners,.. and are also prepared to sweat.
In
1996, a unique migration of adventurers invaded Akumal for a surgical
advance on an underwater cave system with prospects of grandeur. The group
was assembled from seven countries and contained a wealth of experience
and enthusiasm. This
is a tribute to those explorers, their generous sponsors and the kind
local hosts who made exploration of the Ejido Jacinto Pat a record
breaking event.
